Manners or the lack thereof...

Manners or the lack thereof...

At times, one could argue that this is just an impression; but sadly, this is a fact.

Why is it that Mauritian seems to lack manners?

Queuing up just seem such an easy thing to do. Wait for your turn or at least be kind enough to first ask before just queue-jumping. Specially when all other people are diligently following proper etiquette.

Today, I can confirm that Mauritians; and all of them, irrespective of their religion and/or social status, rank or race, lack manners. What is even worse is that the "lady" who just jump in front of us in the queue, was accompanied by what looked to be her grandson.

So what is the example being shown to this little kid here? That he is above rules and can just do what he wants? And am sure this same "lady" would find that outrageous if I would have done same to her. I would have been treated in all sorts of name. Even more so, since the "lady" was "white"... Now I know that it may sound cliché, communal or even racist... But hey, if I had done same, I would have heard things like "sans manières, sans éducations, ces gens!"

She would probably have looked down on me as if me being non-white, mixed origin tending to look like asian/indian would make me uneducated and without proper manners. Once again, do not see here communal thoughts or racist... I am just relating previous experiences...

Things would have been so much easier for everyone if those simple basic rules of courtesy were still applied by everyone. The same people not respecting those will then find how disrespectful the "newer generation" are. But hey, wake up... You are the setting the example....
